27 April at 1 PM at the Wilderness Winery for a talk by noted local historian Michael E. Block. Mike, the author of the book "The Carnage Was Fearful, The Battle of Cedar Mountain". The book is part of the Emerging Civil War Series of books published by Savas Beatie publishing. Mike will be presenting some interesting facts and stories concerning the Overland Campaign in May of 1864. His talk will be in preparation for the re-enactment of The Battle of the Wilderness on its 160th Anniversary on 4 and 5 May at the Wilderness Winery.
In spite of the heavy rain and cold weather, we had a lovely time meeting with local historian Mike Block at the Wilderness Run Vineyard this afternoon! Mike entertained us with stories about people, places, and events during the Overland Campaign, leading up to the Battle of the Wilderness in May of 1864.
We enjoyed comfy patio furniture under a nice tin roof and it worked well! We know the weather kept some people away, but the history buffs who came really enjoyed it and learned a lot! We actually had a nice attendance, in spite of the weather!
