This photograph of Ellwood's entrance hall and staircase showcases the current condition of Ellwood's interior. The exterior of Ellwood was restored by the National Park Service soon after the house was acquired, but no restoration work was done inside. Plaster walls and ceilings were removed to add structural braces and a fire supression system, and to survey for insect damage. Jacking up the house to install steel beams also caused plaster to crack. Ellwood's original heart-pine floorboards are still present under the 1930-era flooring visible in the picture.
