After Confederate General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's left arm was amputated at a nearby field hospital during the Battle of Chancellorsville, Jackson's chaplain Beverley Tucker Lacy brought the arm to Ellwood's family cemetery. Tucker Lacy was the brother of J. Horace Lacy, owner of Ellwood. The Jones/Lacy family did not use gravestones, so Jackson's arm stone is the only marker in the cemetery.
